Brilio.net - The 79th Indonesian Independence Day celebration on August 17, 2024 will be held in the Indonesian Capital City (IKN). The 2024 Independence Day celebration is equipped with various sophisticated technological facilities, one of which is the Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) which will soon be operated to serve the shuttle service for guests and the public attending the 79th Indonesian Independence Day celebration at IKN.

This Autonomous Rail Transit train is a leading mode of transportation in the capital city of the archipelago, this mode is designed to increase travel efficiency while reducing carbon emissions. In addition, this train offers high comfort with full integration into the city's infrastructure. It can be said that ART is a reflection of the vision of the future of Indonesian transportation.

The trackless train project is a collaboration between OIKN and Norinci and participation from China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC), a Chinese railway manufacturer. The ART train consists of two sets of trains, each set having three carriages.

Quoting from the CRRC page, the autonomous tram was first developed by CRRC in 2017. This capital was introduced in October 2017 in the City of Zhuzou, Hunan Province, and began operating in 2018. Since Sunday, August 11, 2024, this autonomous train has been tested.

The trial was conducted to prepare for the operation of the autonomous tram on the upcoming 79th Indonesian Independence Day which will take place on August 17, 2024. So what are the specifications of this autonomous train tram? Let's see the review below! Brilio.net adapted from various sources, Friday (16/8)

1. Without driver.

As the first autonomous train in Indonesia, the Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) is operated using battery power and without using a driver. In addition, as the name rail rapid transit suggests, the ART train does not use rails or cables above it.

2. Can accommodate 300 people.

One ART train unit (trainset) consists of three cars or carriages that can accommodate up to 300 passengers. Meanwhile, one train set with five carriages can accommodate up to 500 passengers.

3. Speed 40 km/h.

Different from other modes of railway transportation, ART runs on the highway like other motorized vehicles through a virtual track that has been determined by the system. The cruising speed of ART reaches 40/hour on Jalan Sumbu Kebangsaan Barat and Jalan Sumbu Kebangsaan Timur.

4. Combine train and bus characters.

This autonomous tram model actually combines the characteristics of trains (light rapid transit/LRT) and buses (bus rapid transit/BRT). You could say, this mode of transportation is shaped like an LRT train but does not operate on rails. But on the highway like a bus.

5. Equipped with sensors in all corners.

The autonomous train is equipped with sensors and radars on all corners, allowing for driverless operation. The sensors also serve to identify virtual tracks and monitor road conditions.

6. Equipped with signal system.

As a train designed on the highway, the autonomous train is also equipped with a signaling system. Later, the autonomous train will give instructions to the traffic lights 100 meters before reaching it. The goal is to adjust traffic movements and prioritize ART to cross without obstacles.

7. Based on transportation mode listing.

Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) is basically based on electric power distributed through batteries. Later, each autonomous train station will be equipped with a fast charging device with a maximum charging power of ART reaching 1000 Ampere and only taking 10 minutes to charge. CRRC's ART is predicted to be able to travel a distance of up to 25 km.
