Brilio.net - Glass cups are indeed a favorite choice for brewing tea because of their elegant and transparent appearance. However, routine use often leaves a problem, namely tea crust that sticks to the surface of the glass. Over time, this layer makes the glass look cloudy and dull.
Tea crust is formed from tannin deposits, a natural substance contained in tea leaves. When tea is brewed, tannin will stick to the surface of the glass, especially if the glass is not washed immediately after use. Although it seems trivial, this crust tends to be difficult to remove if left too long, and can even make the glass feel rough and uncomfortable when used.
Fortunately, there are many simple ways to solve this problem. One of them is by using citric acid and hot water. So usually, the glass will be soaked in a container filled with hot water that has been mixed with citric acid. The reason is, the strong acid in citric acid can remove tea crust that makes the glass dull.
But if you don't have a stock of citric acid at home, there are other ingredients that can be used as an alternative . An Instagram user @nurulkomariah3112 once shared a simple way to wash dirty glasses due to tea crust. Through one of the videos uploaded, she admitted to only relying on two kitchen ingredients.

As reported by brilio.net from Instagram @nurulkomariah3112 on Friday (10/1), the kitchen ingredients in question are dishwashing soap and table vinegar. Well, how to use it, you only need to put the glass into the basin. Then pour in enough dishwashing soap and table vinegar.

Next, rinse with warm water until the glass is completely submerged. If the crust is quite thick, you can soak the glass first for a few minutes. Then, rub the glass using a dishwashing sponge or wire wool to remove the remaining crust that is still attached.

Once scrubbed, rinse immediately using running water. Who would have thought, the glass would look shinier and clearer like new. The tea crust that had previously stuck and made the glass look shabby immediately disappeared because of the soaking process of dish soap and vinegar.
In fact, soaking a crusty glass with a mixture of vinegar and dish soap is effective in removing tea scale because of the combination of chemical properties of the two ingredients. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which is able to dissolve tannins and minerals that form scale on the glass. This acidic property works by weakening the bond between the scale and the glass surface, making it easier to clean.
Meanwhile, dish soap acts as a surfactant, a substance that can break down and lift oil particles, grease, and tea residue that is still stuck. When used together, vinegar and soap create a powerful cleaning solution. Vinegar dissolves stubborn crust, while soap helps clean residue and leaves the glass feeling smooth and clean.
