Millenials Are More Likely To Suffer From These Health Issues

Brilio.net/en - Diseases can occur to anyone. However, there are some diseases which seem to happen to people at certain age. For example, womens health issues at the age of 20 are different compared to mens health issues at the same age. There are also some health issues which occur only among the elders. Millennials are also at risk in getting sick.

Health issues which are more likely to happen to millennials

It does not mean that those who are not millennials cannot suffer from this disease. However, according to health experts, millennials are more at risk.

We cannot deny that mostly millennials do not move a lot since they spend hours in front of the screen. Staying up late, consuming junk food, and being too lazy to exercise support the chance of suffering from diseases.

Below are the list of health issues which millennials are more likely to suffer from without even realizing it:

1. Stroke

Mostly people might think that stroke might only happen to the elders. However, a research published in JAMA Neurologi shows that

the patients who suffer from acute ischemic stroke, both female and male age 18 to 34 years old, increased for 50 percent since 2003 until 2012. Ischemic stroke occurred due to bloackage of blood vessels supplying blood to the brain.

The causes of stroke at young age is more varied and relatively rare to happen compared to old age. Mostly stroke occurred among the elders are because of atherosclerosis or fat and calcium deposits in the arteries, causing blockage in blood vessels. On the other hand, stroke which occurs among the youths might be caused by congenital heart defect, arrhythmia, trauma, sickle cell anemia, smoking, and migraine. Not only that, using illegal drugs such as meth and coccaine can also cause this. Lack of activity or consuming junkfood very often can also increase the process of stroke, which generally happen in stroke at older age.

2. Obesity

Besides stroke, obesity also become the most vulnerable health problem experienced by millenials and even whole modern society. If there is no further action taken, it can triggers various deadly chronic diseases.

Basically, obesity is a complex problem where it is not only triggered by eating pattern but also environment. Besides making your appearance to look less attractive, there are also other diseases might come after this such as diabetes mellitus, stroke, and heart attack.

3. Heart disease.

Heart attack is one of diseases which are identical to elders. But, dont get it wrong! There is still a chance for this disease to threaten young generation. The main causes are mostly change of life pattern which include eating pattern, physical activities, and stress.

4. Type 2 diabetes

According to a research, the increase of obesity case also cause the increase of type 2 diabetes on children cases. This discovery is quite shocking as obesity and diabetes keep on increasing among teenagers. In fact, type 2 diabetes was known to only attack people above 45 years old.

Before 1990s, type 2 diabetes rarely occurred among children. However, since the number of children and teenagers with obesity increased, the cases of diabetes also increased. Until now, the number of type 2 diabetes keep increasing on an alarming level. It also happen in Indonesia. According to The Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) data, at least 731 children and teenagers below 20 are recorded to suffer from diabetes mellitus in 2012. This number increased from the total of 590 children and teenagers in 2011.

While type 1 diabetes is triggered by the inability of organs to produce insulin, type 2 diabetes is more triggered by lifestyle. Eating pattern with excessive calories content without any physical activity to balance it becomes one of the main causes of this disease on youths. If the diabetes which occur on teenagers is out of control, it might increase the risk of serious health issues such as heart disease, loss of vision, nerve disorder, amputation, and kidney failure.

5. Mental disorder

As cited from the Huffington Post, basically millenials have potential health threats related to their lifestyle. The threates are physically as well as mentally. Those born between 1980 to 2000 tend to be more risky to have mental problems compared to the older generation. The main cause is their lifestyle which develop as the technology, social media, and their environment developed as well. So, there is no wonder that millenials are more likely to have anxiety and depression.
