Brilio.net/en - Easter is coming, and to make the easter-hunting game even more fun, try to make sets of beautiful decoupage easter eggs at home. But, wait... what is decoupage really?

Decoupage is the art or craft of decorating objects with paper cut-outs. Basically, you paste the paper cuts (with various patterns) to an object with glue, layer it with glue again, and layer it with varnish. You can do it with various objects to create beautiful crafts. If you found that you actually are into this crafty hobby, it could be one of your secret gold mine.

1. One dozen eggs (emptied)

2. White vinegar

3. Food coloring

4. Acrylic paint

For decoupage: patterned tissue paper, or you can pick any flower or foliage, press them into a thick book.

5. A pair of scissors

6. A slim bamboo stick (satay skewer or anything similar)

7. PVC glue or Mod Podge

8. Flat small brush (unused foundation brush will do)

10. Small pointy brush

11. Glossy/matte varnish

Directions:

1. Empty the eggs

Youll need to blow the egg in order to remove the egg white and yolk before dyeing them. Using a pin, create a pinhole carefully at the top and bottom of the egg. Make one hole a little bit larger than the other. From the smaller hole, blow air using a straw and let the insides flow out through the larger hole. Do this until the egg is empty.

2. Boil the eggshells

Boil some water in a saucepan and place the empty eggshells once boiled and let them sit for 10 minutes. Skim any cooked egg regularly from the waters surface. Use a spoon to transfer eggshells to a tissue paper to drain.

3. Dye the egg (you can skip this step if you want to leave the egg color as it is)

Place two cups of boiling water in a large bowl with 23 drops of food colouring. Place a cup of white vinegar in a small bowl. Dip each egg in vinegar, then transfer to the bowl of food colouring. Submerge the egg in food colouring until it reaches the desired colour: the longer you leave it, the darker it will get. Leave the coloured eggs to dry overnight.

4. Start the decoupage process

Using small, sharp scissors, cut out the motifs as closely to the edge as possible. If youre using a finely patterned tissue paper, just dab drops of water around the desired motif and carefully tear the paper.

Use the bamboo skewer to make the process easier. Just place it at one of the holes on the eggshell.

Dip the brush into the PVC glue or Mod Podge and apply a thin layer to where the first cut-out will lay. Gently place the cut-out on top of the glue. Then apply a second layer of glue over the top. Allow to dry for at least 10-15 minutes.

If you want to add some artistic touches to your decoupage easter eggs, just take a small pointed brush and acrylic paint to decorate them with your own doodles.

Finish it with matte or glossy varnish.
