Brilio.net/en - Were all familiar with the term cinemas, but what exactly are microcinemas? Well, theyre basically small, mini-sized theatres to showcase independent films with rather low budgets. The term may be new to the majority of you, but it is a trend that is actually building up right here in Indonesia. Microcinemas are intended to create a difference in the type of movie content and replace the monotonous cinematic atmosphere with a more fun and casual setting.

Today, a handful of microcinema spots exist in Indonesia, with the most recent one being Kinosaurus. In December 2015, a movie producer named Meiske Taurisia launched Kinosaurus microcinema at Aksara Bookstore in Kemang, South Jakarta. Meiske travelled to Japan and Thailand to learn their respective cinema cultures, and she was convinced that it would be an asset to start-up her own privately-owned microcinema tailored to the Indonesian culture.

Kinosaurus microcinema showcases all genres of films, including those which recently won awards at Festival Film Indonesia (FFI). With a fixed movie schedule every weekend, each movie ticket is priced at Rp.50,000. Its maximum capacity is 25 people, so do come with your entourage and be a part of the unique microcinema experience. One more thing the audience is more than welcome to bring their own food and beverages, so they can munch on their favorite snacks while watching films on bean bags!
