Brilio.net/en - Dr William Bates was an American ophthalmologist who developed in the early twentieth century a method to improve eyesight. The art of sight, also called yoga for eyes or natural eyesight improvement technique are all referring to the principles of the Bates method. Concretely, it is a training method that can potentially help one to recover perfect eyesight thanks to a regular practice of a few simple exercises.

According to Bates experiments, the eyes and the optic nerve need to be exercised just as much as the other muscles of our bodies. His method applies to people suffering from myopia, astigmatism, presbyopia and other common known sight malformation, but also to those who experiment occasional tiredness or discomfort of the vision. Migraines for instance, or a blurry vision from time to time are symptoms that can be treated with the exercises of the Bates method.

This technique teaches the muscle how to release the eyes from constant tension and stimulation they are facing. One must close his eyes and cover them with his hand palms in order to totally exclude them from the light. The heat coming from the hand of the skin allows the nerves to relax and recover.

2. Blinking

Natural blinking not only lubricate our eyeballs but also cleaning and protecting the external surface of the eye. The less one blinks, the more the tiredness feeling will grow: the eye becomes dry and the optic nerve will tense up.

3. Visual field extending

It can be painful because it is not a natural movement of the eye: the point here is to very quickly look at two different stables elements in less than a second in each way.

To put the Bates method into the practice is a complicated path that ask motivation, discipline and tenacity. The exercises can turn out to be painful or unpleasant and have to be done every day, and for a long term. It takes several months to obtain real satisfying results, and a constant practice to maintain the eyesight correct.
