Finance Ministry Claims Arrested Man With IS Link No Longer Employee

The man and his family are now being detained in Bali for further questioning. Rizky Mandasari

The Ministry of Finance provided immediate response following the arrest of their formerofficial who is allegedly involved with the Islamic State (IS) group.

The 39-year-old man with the initial TU was deported from Turkey after allegedly seeking to travel to Syria.

"In February 2016, the personsubmitted a resignation as a civil servantat the Ministry of Finance because he wanted to take care of an Islamic boarding school for orphans in Bogor. Since that moment, he has been unable to be reach," saidHead of Communications and Information Services of Finance Ministry Nufransa Wira Sakti today.

With the resignation,all of TU's activites are unrelated to the Ministry of Finance and should be personal responsibility.

"The Ministry of Finance does not provide any legal assistance for him. We willuphold the presumption of innocence and we respect the law enforcement carried out by the police," said Nufransa.

TU is a graduate of state-owned School of Accounting and hold a master's degree fromFlinders University of South Australia.

Before resigning, he was an economist at the ministry'sFiscal Policy Agency. He also workedin the Directorate General of State Incomeand Auction.

On Tuesday, TU, his wife and three children aged between three and 12, arrived in Bali on from Istanbul. Upon arriving at the Ngurah Rai Airport, they were detained by the police for further interogation.
