Brilio.net/en - Last month, the New York Times released the top new food words in 2015, and made it to the list was the new term of diet practice that is referred as Climatarian.

The term may sounds strange at first but represents the growing trend in diet that has been practiced by people around the world.

According to The New York times, Climatarian, is a diet whose primary goal is to reverse climate change. This includes eating locally produced food (to reduce energy spent in transportation), choosing pork and poultry instead of beef and lamb (to limit gas emissions), and using every part of ingredients (apple cores, cheese rinds, etc.) to limit food waste.

The motivation is clear, environment before health motive or losing weight.

According to the Climates network, food causes 20-30% of all global greenhouse gas emissions. And more than half the world's crops are used to feed animals, in which meat from beef and lamb generates higher emissions than pork and poultry. Simply switching from beef and lamb to pork and poultry will reduce the CO2 emission and the climate impact each year.

Thus to reduce our the climate impact of your diet is to go Climatarian.

The climatarian message is so simple that people grasp the idea and think, yep, this is something I can do. Its a very simple shift, said Biba Hartigan from The Climates Network on the Climatarian diet. Reducing your intake of meat is a difficult concept for people to deal with. What were aiming for with this is making it very clear, simple and easy.
