Where the new capital city will be located and the name of the city have yet to be confirmed. However, there's a big possibility that it will be in the island of Kalimantan.
Most likely to be in Kalimantan. But specifically in which part of Kalimantan is yet to be finalized, Bambang added.
According to him, the basic reason to move the capital is the fact that the economic development in Java and other islands is not balanced, especially with Jakarta playing part as the center of national government and economy.
Ifthe capital city is moved to a different place, Jakarta will be focused on beingthe center of business and finance only.
Then, what about Jakarta's politics?
The previous Jakarta election proved that people pay attention to the city's political situation so much it could be a national issue.
If the plan to transfer the capital city really startsin 2018, then Jakarta will not be the capital city during the time of Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno serve as Governor and DeputyGovernor.
The spokesperson of Great Indonesian Movement Party (Gerindra), a party thatsupports Anies and Sandi, Mohammad Taufik said the plan to move the city is difficult to be realized.
When asked about how it might affect Anies and Sandi, he said, Well, [Anies will keep on] being Jakartans' governor. This is not about the capital, so it is not a problem since what[Anies] wants to develop are the people, [and] who Anies wants to make happy are the people, said Taufik to Kompas.
Meanwhile, the current Jakarta governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat confirmed Jakarta government has not been involved in the discussion of moving the capital city of Indonesia.
I dont know. Ask the central government, okay? Djarot said.
