Brilio.net/en - Sustainable fashion is becoming the all the rage in recent years, and why shouldnt it be? It you can look cool and benefit either the environment or workers abroad, why not? Weve seen jewelry that grows its own greeneryand no lets take a look at what Adidas has in store for the future. The concept shoe consists of an upper made with ocean plastic content and a 3D-printed midsole made from recycled polyester and gillnets,Adidas says.
Adidas has partnered with a multidisciplinary creative environmentalism organization called Parley For The Oceans to create a concept sneaker made almost entirely out of plastic waste and discarded fishnets taken from the sea.
Fishnets are one of the worse pollutants for our oceans, especially because more often than not they harm marine animal. But theres quite a cool back-story to the fishnets that Adidas will be using in their new sneaker design.
The Sea Shepherds, a sea-bound environmental activism organization, capturedafter tracking illegal poachers wanted by Interpol off the coast of West Africa for 110 days. The environmentalists even saved the poachers after their ship sank! What heroes!
This push in the sustainable direction is much needed for the German based brand as it has been previously accused by Greenpeace of environmental pollution in the past. Just to insure extra green friendly standards, the base materials of the shoe will also be predominantly created from recycled materials. Furthermore, the shoe is knitted which has the advantage of producing significantly less waste than traditional methods of shoe making.
While its still in the experimentation phase, we (and surely the critters of the deep blue sea) can only hope that this design comes to life in the near future. The design wont clean the oceans, but it sure is a step (thats a pun for you) in the right direction. Maybe even a jog.
