East Jakarta Police and Halim Perdanakusuma Aviation Security seized thousands of lobster seeds from Batam in a smuggling attempt on Sunday afternoon.
"We found 13,600 lobster seeds packed in 68 plastic bags and stuffed into orange suitcases," said East Jakarta Police Chief, Andry Wibowo.
Andry said their operation began when a security officer, Denny Saputra, suspected a wet suitcase at the check-in counter.
"Then, the suitcase was brought to X-ray scanner and after being checked, the content is a liquid [stuff]," he said.
The suitcase was then taken to Avsec AP II and forcibly opened by Halim Airport intelligence officer, Sgt. Kholik and an airport police Brig. Sarwono.
"After we conduct an investigation, it is found that the suitcase belongs to [initial] A, a Batam citizen. Currently , our members are on their way to pick the person in Batam for a further investigation process," said Andry.
Andry added that later on, the concerned people will be charged with Law No. 31/2004 on fisheries.
