Andy Mallarangeng Officially Released From Prison

Former Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Andi Malarangeng is now a free man after serving a sentence of four-year imprisonment in Sukamiskin Penitentiary, Bandung.

Andi was officially released on Wednesday, shorter than his initial prison term as he had receiveda remission in 2015 and had passed the three-months probation leavesince last April.

"Today, Andi has ended his probationperiod and starting today, he's a free citizen," said Budiana of Bandung Correctional Board to Kompas.com on Wednesday.

Budiana ensured that Andi has passed his probationaccording to the procedure, including having to report to the Correctional Board twice a week.

"The person has always been obedient, so that's why today he deserved an end to his guidance. So, starting today he's free," said Budiana.

Andi Alfian Mallarangeng, who was a politician of Democratic Party and the spokesperson for former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, was sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to pay Rp 200 million fine in July 2014 after being proven guilty in a graft case related to the Hambalang sports complex construction project.

According to the Jakarta Corruption Court, Andi had abused his authority as a minister to enrich himself, which resulted in Rp 463.6 billion in state losses.
