Brilio.net/en - Siti Badriah, one of the most popular dangdut singers in Indonesia, recently grabbed the spotlight thanks to some pictures she posted on Instagram. The singer was spotted wearing trendy distressed ripped jeans. But theres more to it than than that, as the public scoffed at the young singer for being too sexy. Indonesias conservative online voices are saying the jeans are inappropriate and distasteful.
In the country with the worlds largest Muslim population, the fact that you can see most of her thigh has stirred controversy in Jakarta during the month of Ramadhan. Normally, Badriahs Instagram posts get around 100 comments, which aint bad. But this one gained her more than 10 times as many, pulling in 1,155 comments, and counting.

Instagram user Zhulljanakae commented, Yes, it might look cool but it would be more perfect if the jeans are replaced by others with more coverage, because the cool ones will always lose to the perfect ones. Not only that, some furious commenters even suggested that she instead go naked, rather than wearing the jeans, which seems a little extreme.
Celebrities are always fashion trend setters for millennials around the world, and Indonesia is no exception. But because the archipelago is also a fairly conservative culture, pop stars would do well to be conscientious about their fashion statements.
That said, this so-called controversy is actually a bit ridiculous. Ripped jeans are hardly a new thing, nor are the truly risque for modern pop stars anywhere in the world. Just look at Miley Cyrus.

In fact, other Indonesian celebrities like Ayu Ting Ting, Dian Sastrowardoyo, Cinta Laura, and others sport the exact same ripped-jeans style. Yet, they do not receive backlash from the public.
Ayu Ting Ting wore distressed ripped jeans when she was practicing on stage. The video was posted to her Instagram account. Even though the rips are pretty big, the positioning is lower, which minimizes thigh exposure.

These examples beg the question: Why can some celebs get away with it, while Siti Badriah gets digital hate mail en masse?
