However, at the last minute of registration, Riza and Marshel were said to have withdrawn from running as contestants in the 2024 Pilkada. This was conveyed directly by the Deputy of Bappilu DPP Demokrat Party, Kamhar Lakumani as one of the parties that also supported Riza-Marshel. He confirmed Riza-Marshel's withdrawal and shifted his party's support to the Benyamin Davnie-Pilar Saga Ichsan candidate pair.

The news of Riza-Marshel's resignation can be said to be sudden, especially since it happened at the last second. Kamhar said that this is indeed common as a dynamic in the Pilkada.
"This is a common dynamic in regional elections, changes and shifts often occur at the last minute," he continued.

Previously, the Riza-Marshel pair received support from several parties, including Gerindra, Demokrat, PSI, PAN, and PKS. However, in its development, PKS, which had given a letter of recommendation, decided to withdraw its support and nominate its own cadres, namely the Ruhamaben-Shinta Wahyuni Chairuddin pair.
"That's right (transfer of support). In principle, PKS is just following the DPP's direction," said the Head of PKS Tangsel City, Dadang Darmawan.

However, seconds before registration, Marshel admitted that he was increasingly ready and optimistic to advance as a candidate for Deputy Mayor of South Tangerang. Registration of candidate pairs at the Regional General Election Commission (KPUD) is open from August 27 to August 29, 2024.
"As registration approaches, I am increasingly prepared," said Marshel Widianto at the Jakarta DPRD Building.
"I am increasingly optimistic about advancing South Tangerang with Ariza," he added.
