Brilio.net - The wheel of life keeps turning, and changes in one's fate are inevitable. So too with the life journeys of a number of Indonesian comedians who are now rarely seen on screen.
As time went by, their popularity began to fade, forcing them to find other ways to continue to make ends meet. One of them was by trying their luck in the culinary world.
Not a few choose to change direction to become food traders to meet the needs of their families. Their decision to focus on the food business is proof that they are not embarrassed to change professions even though they were previously known as public figures.
Who are the comedians who have now changed direction to become food vendors? Check out the reviews that brilio.net has collected from various sources, Monday (9/9).
1. Adul.
Adul, a comedian who often appeared on various television shows and soap operas in the 2000s to 2010s, has now chosen to focus on the culinary business. Together with his wife, Wenty Eri Fitriani, Adul opened a catfish pecel stall. Interestingly, they manage this stall without the help of employees. All processes, from shopping for ingredients to cooking, are done by the couple themselves.
2. Isa Bajaj.
Isa Wahyu Prastantyo, or better known as Isa Bajaj, now lives in his hometown in Magetan, East Java. Together with his wife, Isa opened Warung Eropa, which offers ice and food menus. Isa is fully responsible for every dish served, from mixing the spices to cooking it himself.
3. Caesar YKS.
Caisar Aditya Putra's figure was once the center of public attention through a sahur event on a private TV station, with his energetic dancing that became his trademark. However, after his popularity declined, Caisar tried his luck in the culinary business. He had opened a restaurant that served tofu, meatballs, and even smashed chicken.
4. Ucok Baba.
The COVID-19 pandemic at that time had a major impact on artists, including Ucok Baba. However, the man whose real name is Usnan Batubara remains optimistic about changing direction to the durian business. Ucok chose to sell Medan durian, which is known for its distinctive taste.
5. Mr. Sunandar.
Dede Sunandar, who was previously known as a comedian on various television shows, is now running a cireng business. He started this cireng business before the pandemic and is located in Semarang. When the pandemic hit, Dede had difficulty getting work in the entertainment world and decided to focus on the cireng business that he manages online.
6. Mrs. Atiek.
Mpok Atiek, a senior comedian who is famous for her tongue-in-cheek style of speaking, now rarely appears on television. To stay productive, Mpok Atiek sells cincau ice, coconut pudding, and ginger coconut which are priced at around Rp15 thousand.
Although these merchandise are not handmade by herself, Mpok Atiek is still enthusiastic about selling them. Many fellow artists buy her merchandise in bulk as a form of support.
7. Nunung.
Tri Retno Prayudati, better known as Nunung, has also ventured into the culinary world by selling a variety of home-cooked dishes. One of her favorite menus is calamari balakutak.
Interestingly, Nunung received capital support from Raffi Ahmad to start this business. Raffi did not even ask for the capital to be returned, only hoping that Nunung would remain healthy and productive even though there had been no filming calls.
