'Kartini' To Compete At Central Asia's Biggest Film Festival

Kazakhstan will be hosting the 13th Eurasia International Film Festival (EIFF) from July 22 to 28, 2017 and an Indonesian film will be among the movies to compete at Central Asia's biggest filmmaker forum.

Biographical drama film 'Kartini' by Hanung Bramantyo has been officially announced to compete with other European and Asian movies.

The news comes from the director himself through his Twitter on Wednesday.


As announced on the EIFF official website, 'Kartini' has been nominated for the Best Film along with other prominent contenders namely 'Nosotros' (Spain), 'The Foolish Bird' (China), 'One Day' (South Korea), 'Inflame' (Turkey), 'Centaur' (Kyrgyzstan), 'Pomegranate Orchard' (Azerbaijan) and more.

This years festival was organized under the theme,"Bridge of Cultures" which is in line with the concept of Astana Expo-2017 International Exhibition a worldwide event that takes place at the same time in Astana and aims to support Kazakhstan's film industry, to further the appreciation of motion picture arts for people of all ages, also to establish the platform for successful cooperation between Asia and Europe.

'Kartini' narrates the life and struggle of Indonesian heroine, Kartini who fight for women's emancipation during the Dutch colonial era.

The film features Dian Sastrowardoyo, Acha Septriasa, Ayushita Nugraha, and Christine Hakim.
