Brilio.net - Feeling like a failure is often a disaster for most people. When you fail, it feels like the world is going to end. In fact, it is not uncommon for people to take shortcuts to hurt themselves and even commit suicide.
Mental health problems resulting from this failure are increasingly common among young people. This is what emerged at the 2024 Becoming Human Day Festival which was held in Kuningan, Jakarta, Saturday (27/7/2024).
This event was initiated by Being Human, a platform that celebrates emotions and maintains mental well-being by telling stories that raise big themes about failure and growth. The 2024 Becoming Human Day Festival aims to invite the public, especially young people, to listen and tell stories to each other.
Everyone has failed
At this event, the talk show entitled What Grows with Work received quite a lot of attention from visitors. Understandably, this talk show featured three speakers, namely Chelsea Islan as a celebrity and actress, Jovial da Lopez as a content creator and Narasi Chief Creative Officer, and Marchella Febritrisia Putri, a writer with one of her phenomenal works, Later We Tell About Today .
Chelsea, even though she has had a career in acting for almost 12 years, doesn't mean everything has gone smoothly. He also experienced failure. He experienced this condition when the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
All the creative activities he had been carrying out had stopped. This condition made him stressed and anxious. He felt he lost his identity during the pandemic. Covid really hit me. So it feels emptier. If you don't work anymore, you feel like you've lost your identity. What usually might be busy every day, every day you have to go to the shooting location, suddenly you're really stressed at home. "I can't imagine it, it's really really stressful," said Chelsea, who also emphasized that this condition continues to this day. Chelsea has not yet returned and continues to be on hiatus from acting.
Marchella's story is different, where since she was little she felt like she was living in a "golden cage". The father shows his affection in a very protective way towards him. His father always facilitated his needs from the tips of his feet to his head, right down to his underwear.
My father was the 'provider' for all his children. When we got out of the 'golden cage' we were confused about what to do. Because all this time my father has always provided it. We don't know what our own needs are. "It's difficult to make a decision," said Marchella.
Jovial has also experienced failure. As a content creator, he once created video content that was made in vain , which actually went viral. Meanwhile, content that is created seriously is the opposite. "There are 300 videos on my channel, most people know and remember only 3 to 10, the rest are failed videos," said Jovial.
Move on and keep working
There are many ways you can deal with failure. Most importantly, keep working and moving forward. Everyone has a different process for coming to terms with the failures they experience.
But after that, we still have to return to the reality of the life we live. This is also what Chelsea did even though he admitted that it took a longer process to get out of this situation.
"After the pandemic, lots of people started shooting again. Starting to get back to reality , but apparently I can't accept that reality yet. So it takes a longer process," he said.
However, Chelsea is determined to return to work. The current conditions are a trigger for him to learn from the failures he has experienced.
Meanwhile, Jovial reminded that failure is a natural process. When we experience failure, learn from the failure. For example, when we make a bad video, why is it bad? What is wrong with it. Learn from there. Usually when people experience failure they will complain. When you fail, it's hard to put into words. "There is anger, sadness, disappointment," said Jovial to Brilio.net .
However, Jovial provides tips so that you can keep going when you experience failure. No matter how small the steps you take will make you much stronger. There are times when we have to stop. "We should just sleep. "But when you're awake and conscious, take a step," said Jovial.
Similar to Jovial, for Marcella, failure is a lesson for self-introspection so that we become better people. What is clear is that the Becoming Human Day Festival teaches us to continue working and never be afraid of failure.
Apart from that, speaking and listening are two abilities that must be honed in balance to create better understanding and empathy between fellow humans. The Becoming Human Day Festival is actually a form of celebration of all the processes and journeys of becoming a complete human being, including facing failure. Remember, failure is a process for us to become better.
