Brilio.net - The opportunity to study at a renowned university is an extraordinary gift for Devit Febriansyah. This young man from the slopes of Mount Singgalang, Malalak, West Sumatra did not expect to be able to enter the gates of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 2025.
His name suddenly caught the attention after an upload by ITB Lecturer and education influencer, Imam Santoso, appeared on Instagram. Devit's inspiring story spread quickly after being shared via the @santosoim account on Monday, June 9, 2025.
Devit is the only student from Malalak District who successfully passed the National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP). He will study at the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (STEI), one of the prestigious faculties at ITB.
His success made ITB give special attention, proven by the direct arrival of the Rector to his house in West Sumatra. Devit looked surprised when he found out that he was picked up by the Rector.
"Paraded by the Chancellor on the slopes of Mount Singgalang, West Sumatra. Devit from SMAN 1 Bukittinggi was accepted into STEI, tremors, knowing that the Chancellor was there," wrote Imam Santoso, quoted by brilio.net , Tuesday (10/6).

The arrival of important figures from ITB was warmly welcomed by Julimar and Doni Afrijal. Devit's parents seemed enthusiastic to welcome special guests who came directly to their home.
It is known that Devit's parents work as cinnamon porters with an uncertain income. The simple economic conditions did not discourage Devit from continuing to pursue higher education.
He made education a way to change his family's fate. Devit's strong determination was rooted in a great desire to elevate his parents' status.

The villagers were proud of Devit's achievement in getting into ITB. They collectively raised funds voluntarily to support Devit's departure to Bandung. The support was evident from the chain messages circulating in the residents' WhatsApp group.
"Devit being accepted into ITB made the whole village proud, the residents chipped in to help Devit, 50 thousand, 100 thousand, and so on," continued Imam.
During a visit to Devit's house, ITB Chancellor Prof. Tata also handed over assistance from PT Paragon Technology and Innovation. The assistance was in the form of a laptop and cash worth Rp 5 million as transportation costs to Bandung.
Devit is also a beneficiary of the Smart Indonesia Card (KIP) College program. This assistance covers educational costs as well as providing living allowances for outstanding students from underprivileged families.
The visit to Devit's house was not only attended by the Chancellor, but also by important figures from ITB. Some of them are Imam Santoso from the FTTM Metallurgical Engineering Study Program, Prof. Dr. Sophi Damayanti as the Director of Alumni, and Dr. Nurlaela Arief from ITB Public Relations.

Not only Devit, two other new students were also picked up directly by the ITB Chancellor. They are Nauli Al Ghifari who was accepted at the Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering (FTTM) and Deka Fakira Berna at the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD).
The three students are all from West Sumatra and are recipients of the KIP Kuliah scholarship. This moment is real proof that enthusiasm and achievement can break through limitations.
ITB Rector, Prof. Tata, felt touched when he met the three new students in person. He gave sincere advice to ignite their enthusiasm in living academic life on campus.
"On campus, you will meet many great students. You must continue to try your best and never give up," said Prof. Tata.
