In previous years, Earth Hours were centered in the capital city of Jakarta. This year, however, has a change of scenery as the largest environmental awareness initiativewill be celebrated at the world-famous UNESCO World Heritage sites Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Central Java, and Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta on Saturday.
This years Shine a Light on Climate Action Earth Hour will be held on Saturday, the 19th of March 2016, starting at 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm local time. This is one of the efforts of raising awareness for climate change.

According to CEO of WWF-Indonesia Efransjah, climate changes is a real threat to the preservation of natural resources, biodiversity, and general human survival. Just like what has been done in the past few years, the global Earth Hour initiative this year encourages people to switch off the lights and switch on their social power.
The two cultural icons, Borobudur and Prambanan Temple, are the symbol (of worlds cultural and natural wealth) to open our eyes that the beauty and richness of nature arent only for us, but also for our children and grandchildren. "Through the symbolism of turning off our lights and appliances for an hour, we show a real commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions," he added.
The March 19s commemoration of Earth Hour in Borobudur Temple will be located in Aksobya Court, starting at 7:30 pm Indonesia time.
On March 19, all lights in the temple area and surroundings will be switched off from 8:30 pm until 9:30. According to Jakarta Globe, this year's campaign is supported by the managements of Prambanan and Borobudur temples and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), as well as Twitter Indonesia.
Besides those two cultural icons, at least, 70 cities and 37 Earth Hour communities in Indonesia are also scheduled to join the lights-off campaign.

The Earth Hour campaign in Borobudur Temple will be broadcasted live via video-streaming application Periscope.
The annual event, initiated in Sydney in 2007, encourages households, businesses and communities to switch off their non-essential lights between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Indonesia first participated in the event in 2009.
