Brilio.net/en - In 2013, two and a half years before its official launch, The division was already one of the most anticipated video game of all times. Three days after the game has been released, Ubisoft has announced that it has already broken its sales record.
The game has been released on the three main platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC and has broken sales record for all of them. As a reminder, Ubisoft is a video game developer and publisher behind worldwide famous video games such as Rayman, Assassins creed, Just dance or Prince of Persia.
The storytelling comes from the renowned Tom Clancy (Tom Clancys the division being the official name of the game) and many aspects of the video game are inspired by the authors artistic universe.
What is this game about? A devastating virus is spreading in New York, and the different districts of the city are being shut down one after the other. In just a few days, the lack of food, water and other basic supplies creates panic and chaos in the society. And that is when the division intervenes. Composed of a bunch of ordinary men and women secretly trained to act as a last resort independently of any governmental hierarchy, the division is in charge of bringing peace back when police and military have abandoned the city.
A tough mission, that each player has to conduct together in a team of two to four people. The player's main mission is to restore order by investigating the source of the virus and fight against the enemies. The gameplay is similar to other third-person-shooters: the action takes place in a chaotic but nonetheless very realistic scenery and each players character can carry weapons (handguns, assault rifles) and explosives (sticky bombs and smart mines).
Critics and professionals of the video game industry are in general very enthusiastic and the division has received so far very positive comments. Ubisoft set the bar very high in terms of realism and rendering, and the representation of chaotic New York city won unanimous support of the players. The importance given to the esthetical aspect is also actually what the division has been reproached for: very pleasant for the eyes, but no real innovation when it comes to the proceedings and actions for the player.
According to its creators, the true novelty of the division and the reason why the game has already been the talk of the Internet about the fact that it is the first long term game. Meaning that the game and the universe around it doesnt end when the player accomplished all the tasks and reached the last level. It is in somehow a never ending reality. One might wonder about the effects of this kind of game on the most sensitive players and how big the risk of confusing game and reality could be
