It is interesting to note that learning to read has actually done irreversible things to our brains, as mentioned by a specialist in traumatic brain injury, Lidia Stanton.
Recently, Stanton used the Q&A website Quora to reveal that "neuroscientists and cognitive psychologists joke that reading is a form of brainwashing."
Literate people only need to look at print to know what it says. If I put a word or two in front of your eyes, you'll feel compelled to read it - your brain does it for you automatically before you decide whether to read or not, she wrote.
If her statement fails to convince you, Stanton has got a way to prove it.
Try to force yourself not to read the sentence above while looking at it. Investigate the visual look of the words without reading them. Easy, or not?
