Brilio.net/en - Live music, concerts, festivals or even intimate performances are sacred spaces. Artists are pouring their souls and energy into entertaining a crowd and shows are normally pretty awesome. Concerts are spaces to socialize and indulge in some much needed live art, through one of the most powerful communication tools in history - music.

But theres a very modern obstruction rhythmically bumping up and down to the beat, and its pretty annoying. Cell phones have taken the charm out of live performances. There are few things more annoying than seeing a sea of flashing screens blocking your view of the performer.

No, your app that lights a flame from a lighter is not nearly as cool as putting a real lighter in the air. Most of all, though, people are filming the performance..instead of watching it.

Artists are starting to take notice and some are even taking drastic measures.

Zooey Deschanel and her band She and Him are banning phones at her shows altogether. Although drastic, we get the point. So, put your device on airplane mode and save the pics for the professional photographers - who are also there by the way!

Here five reasons you should just enjoy the performance.

1. The quality wont match the performance. By a long shot.

Lets face it, most of us arent photographers like Instagram filters will have us believe. Concerts are usually at night with lighting that is not designed for photography. Pictures and videos probably wont look as good as you will remember them anyhow, so why spend your night trying to record something that wont live up to what it actually was?

2. Youre visual pollution for other concert goers.

Crowds can get pretty hectic, especially if youre a shortie squeezed in behind some 2-meter folks rocking out. But theres nothing worse than looking out at a crowd and getting blinded by the chilling bright lights of cell phones.

3. Youll probably never watch the videos again.

Were all guilty of it. I have about 100 videos on my phone from my younger concert days that I have truly never watched again. They would be collecting dust if they werent digitally stored. In fact, theyre probably just wasting precious memory space on my iPhone. I cant delete them for some reason. Dont trap yourself like I have! Seriously though, how often do you actually watch those videos on Facebook?

4. Why exactly are you doing it?

If the quality isnt good, and you wont see the videos again - whats the point? To share with your friends in an attempt to make them jealous? Im not saying one Snapchat would be the end of the world, but lets limit the FOMO-inducing need to always be present on social media. One ten-second clip is enough. Ok, you were there, thats dope.

5. Be present in the moment.

Concerts are those sweet rare moments that we have to connect with our fellow music lovers, socialize and just let go and enjoy the music. Theres no need to be attached to your phone as it will undoubtedly take away from your experience. A few snaps here are fine, but enjoy the present moment in its real and authentic self.
