Do you like staying up late, eating junk food or are you being often exposed to the sun? Then, you have to know that those things can age your eyes.

Here are six bad habits that might causeyour eyes to age faster andmore prone to diseases:

1. Being under the sun without sunglasses

Getting exposed to ultraviolet (UV) rays can accelerate your eyes' aging process and damage your eyelids. Long-term sun exposure can cause sunburn, damage on your photokeratitis, and lead to cataract, macular degeneration, pinguecula, pterygium and even cancer on your eyelids. Use sunglasses with 100% UV protection to prevent them.

2. Staring at screens for too long

Staring at your smartphone, tablet or laptops screen can cause eye strain, leading into blurred vision and headache.

You need to let your eyes rest by looking away from the screen for 30 seconds every one hour.

3. Smoking

Smoking can damage your body including your eyes. Research shows that smoking is related to eye diseases including cataract, macular degeneration, uveitis, dry eyes and diabetic retinopathy.

The fact shows that smokers are four times more likely to experience blindness than non-smokers.

Stop smoking, no matter how old you are right now, to reduce the risk of severe eye diseases.

4. Having bad eating habit

Do you like eating junk food but rarely consume fruits and vegetables? If so, then there is chance you are not getting sufficient vitamin, mineral and essential fatty acids for your eyes.

Green vegetables, fruits and fish such as salmon can prevent a lot of degenerative eye diseases.

Eye vitamin can give you more nutrition, but eating healthy food, doing regular exercise, and watchingyour weight are more effective to maintain your eye condition.

5. Sleeping with soft lenses

If you are using soft lenses, it is better for you not to use it while sleeping since they are not supposed to be worn for too long.

Using them too long might make your eyes become hurt or dry and it can cause infection.

6. Not going for regular eyes check-up

Regular eye check-up can detect impaired vision, eye diseases or other issues before you realize there is something wrong with your eyes.

Eye diseasessuch as glaucoma often do not show any symptoms until you suddenly lose your vision permanently.
