Brilio.net/en - Last week, on August 13, Joseph Schooling made history by winning a gold medal in the Mens 100m butterfly category. Not only did he outclass his idol Michael Phelps by a fraction of a second, but the 21-year old also set a new Olympics record!

The triumph was also Singapore's first ever gold medal at an Olympic Games.

Completing his race in 50.39 seconds was enough to seal the win that set both an Asian and national record as well. To put the icing on the cake, the success earns Schooling a million dollars!

Joseph Schoolings journey to winning his gold medal was one to cherish.

In 2008, little Joseph met hisidolMichael Phelps in Singapore shortly before the latter was due to take part in the Beijing Olympic Games. Just eight years later, they came face to face again, this time ready to compete in a swimming pool at the Rio Olympics.
