They aren’t always anti-social (as largely stereotyped); they are just selectively social and carefully choose with whom they spend their time.

Brilio.net/en - Do you often feel exhausted being more than an hour in an open company gathering or in any crowded social situation? Congratulations, turns out you are an introvert!

Despite comprising an estimated one-third of the worlds general population, introversion may be one of the most frequently misunderstood personality traits. Things to note about introverts, even they often seems like disinterested, introverts are not necessarily shy. They arent always anti-social (as largely stereotyped); they are just selectively social and carefully choose with whom they spend their time and energy on.

They feel more energetic when spending time with themselves, their closest friends or family members and nothing is wrong about that.

The problem is, the professional world is often opposing them. That is the harsh world where only spontaneous, jaunty personalities will survive. It is the not what you know, but who you know world obliges you to get acquainted to as many people as you can; to have a devil called network. But (too bad for introverts) networking is an ultimate career booster and the most precious thing a professional may possess.

So, what should an introverted person do? Is it possible to have a vast network without much socializing? Naturally no, but here are things introverts can do to get rid of the burden:

1. This time, reply with a yes

Its understandable that sometimes its hard for introverts to say yes to an invitation, whethter its an out of lunch or an after-office party. But it doesnt hurt to sometimes escape your comfort zone and receive invitations with open hands. Remember, every relationship begins with an invitation.

2. Just show up

When you are invited to attend parties or gathering, dont think too much and just go. No matter how long youll be in the event, just show up and have some conversation. If you feel like leaving early, its perfectly okay. Just say a polite good bye. Its better than not coming at all.

3. Begin with baby steps

Dont be too bothered by making-friend things in the workplace. Becoming the popular one is not your goal. You only have to cultivate good relationships with other workers so just take it easy. Begin the baby steps with simple goals such as smiling at other workers and say hello, ask an officemate out for lunch, and other small things to widen your social circle.

4. Utilize your friends

No harm here. It means to take advantage from your blunt, extrovert friend to get a golden ticket to a bigger social sphere. In certain events, you can make that friend your little comfort zone and she/he might help to introduce you to everyone else in the room.
Having a broad and growing network has many unexpected (as well as expected) benefits. After all, you can always retreat to your comfortable bedroom to recharge and enjoy precious time with yourself again.
